Cryptominers are buying up the gaming graphics. So AMD and Nvidia are bringing specialized mining cards

in #crypto7 years ago

The price of crypto is on the rise and the stock of graphics cards are thinning. It's thus no surprise that the new AMD RX is hard to get in many countries. Both AMD and Nvidia are now reacting to the interest of crypto miners with specialized versions of their graphic cards that are meant purely for mining.

Based on the information by the website Videocardz Nvidia wants to introduce a graphics card without video outputs based on the GP106-600 chip. This GPU would with high probability not support DirectX, Vulkan or OpenGL - so regular use would not be possible, but the chips could then be cheaper. Another money saver could be a reduced warranty of only 90 days.

AMD also want to bring their own miners graphics cards- it should be one based on the Polaris chip which we can find in either the RX 580 or the older RX 480, but details aren't available yet.

In both cases, the graphicas cards should be sold by partners of AMD and Nvidia just like normal graphic cards. The question is whether this will be a good option for miners, as miners often re-sell their graphic cards when they buy new ones so they get at least part of the money back. This would be practically impossible with these specialized cards.
