Bitcoin, Gold, Silver & Geopolitics‏ @Super_Crypto
We had peaceful few weeks - Now that Mr. Goldman has initiated the Dump, I won't be surprised to see couple of hacks here & there....and then a quick visit to $5800...would be nice - If we visit bottom I am ready to buy next batch of Dash, Monro, long live Cartel & Thank you.

      Tom.HD‏ @paschigol
Your bottom is 5800?

      Bitcoin, Gold, Silver & Geopolitics‏ @Super_Crypto
No, I have many bottoms planned -
B#1: $5800 - buy Bitcoin using Fiat
B#2: $3000 - buy using Credit card
B#3: $2000 - sell my house to buy BTC
B#4: $999 - Sell my kidneys & Buy everything in Crypto
B#5: ???? - Start begging in NY downtown..where I would have lost wallet keys

David Gokhshtein‏ @davidgokhshtein
I’m getting as much $BTC as possible. at the end of the day, it’s the best
And today, I’m going right after $GVT and $ADA. Just keep adding.

Gat‏ @CryptoGat
As long as $HMNY stops diluting shares & their statement about being net even cash flow this month is true, we should keep seeing green

Gat‏ @CryptoGat
We all have been longing $ETH, trying to find the bottom. I noticed everyone is posting ridiculous targets, which means the bottom is probably near. Also have seen people start to short it here around 250 rather than long...

Crypto Rand‏ @crypto_rand
$ETH | Ugly times ahead. Volume keeps into the downtrend. Lack of strength to push the reversal breakout. All the higher lows doomed. Still waiting for now

Matt Odell‏ @matt_odell
At scale, @gethoneyminer's impact on altcoins will be interesting. You run the app on your computer and it automatically mines the most profitable alt then dumps it on the market for bitcoin. (1)You get more bitcoin. (2)Bitcoin price increases. (3)Altcoin price decreases.

Let's throw a bunch of disclosures in here:
-They haven't paid me a cent, they offer ref links but I intentionally didn't use one
-Probably won't be profitable for you unless your electricity is free(but could still be worth it)
-I'm not currently using it(no linux support)

      phil0xcypher‏ @burningw0rds
Has Nicehash been essentially doing this for a while?

      Matt Odell‏ @matt_odell
It's a bit different, nicehash is a hash rate marketplace where people can rent out their hash. Honeyminer is an app you run on your own computer to make use of spare cycles.

      Ahmad Adelgary‏ @Adelgary
Yeah but the selling and buying pressure of alts vs BTC from this miner is essentially the same as nicehash, right?

      Matt Odell‏ @matt_odell
Ah you're right, I didn't realize they also offer a similar product alongside their hash rental. https://www.nicehash.com/cpu-gpu-mining I know minergate also offers a similar product, but they don't have an auto-dump feature iirc, and have a somewhat shady reputation.

CryptoKang [NoCTO]‏ @CryptoKang
Upsetting morning for $BCH, but there is a silver lining (could be a retrace)

Ari Paul‏ @AriDavidPaul
There’s a lot of problems with ICOs. “Fair” launches today that start with mining mitigate many of these issues but aren’t a magic bullet. Is it better to have commercial miners own a good chunk or the developers/founders? Does mining produce less concentrated holding (post BTC)

      Bruce Fenton‏ @brucefenton
Fair mining, if done right, spreads holdings pretty wide, pretty fast — commercial miners tend to sell fast and not accumulate much

      Ari Paul‏ @AriDavidPaul
Grin might change that dynamic. Lots of commercial mining startups financed by long term bulls makes it look more like a pre-ICO, maybe. Emphasis on the maybe.

RAMEN ‏ @RamenofBinance
#Bitcoin $BTC

  1. $7400~$7600 bear liquidity is too much to take.
  2. Price made a fake break-out of the greater trendline resistance of the descending triangle (resist at $7300)
  3. Downtrend pretty much confirmed (Still downtrend even if price bounces upto $7100+ & stabilizes)

FWIW.....I don't want to own an asset trading below its 200 day moving average. I think many people who want to be holders will save themselves a ton of grief and do themselves a lot of good if they stay out of the crypto markets until they get back above the 200 day ma. there will be plenty of time to accumulate at low low prices but trying to pick bottoms is a great way to lose your money. Also, I don't think it will, but crypto COULD go to zero..... If you stay out until its above 200 day MA you would completely eliminate your chance of losing ALL of your money, and if it goes to the moon you will be IN the trade! VERY simple rule that could be life changing.

      Petar Stoimirov
you will miss out on a shit ton of gains if you wait for that…

      Alan Schill
not at all! the last bear market where this happened if you followed this advice you bought BTC around 250 and caught the entire move! 40-80xish on your money in 2.5 years. If you are shooting for bigger returns then this and think you will get there short term trading then you are definitely not a professional trader and I will bet all my money you will go broke!

Adam Barlam
Been calling this FINAL dip for a while.
Pure speculation, but I think we have one last dip, followed by a run starting mid-September that will coincide with the approval of the CBOE ETF, followed by a major bull run with BAKKT launching in November.

      Jesse Croucier
There's a gap down at $6650. I think we will come down, fill the gap and hopefully continue on. If we come down to retest 5800, I don't think it will hold.

      Grady Ryther
No chance the ETF gets approved before the final deadline in early 2019. Still slim chance of it getting approved even then, considering how blatantly manipulated and unregulated the markets are.

      Adam Barlam
I think the CBOE ETF is a largely different animal than the previous ETFs. We shall wait and see.

      Grady Ryther
It certainly has the best chance of any ETF so far. But in the SEC's rejections of the other ones, they specifically cited market manipulation, lack of regulatory oversight (particularly of foreign markets), and tether. The CBOE ETF can't solve those endemic problems.

      Adam Barlam
The previous denials are also in a stay motion right now and are being re-evaluated by the SEC commissioners. The rejections were made by the staff, and the commissioners can choose to review and issue a stay motion if they disagree. This happened the other week.

      Grady Ryther
Yea but that is almost certainly 100% because of 1 commissioner, Hester Peirce, who is probably a Hodler herself. All it takes for a review of an SEC decision is one person to ask for it. It really doesn't mean much.

      Adam Barlam
Hester has stated and disclosed that she isn't holding any crypto. Also, I believe a stay motion requires more than just 1 commissioner to oppose.

Irtza Shahan
Amazing insight by a bitmex trader on twitter

I've been giving a lot of thought to the recent 50% rise in Bitfinex shorts, large cash buying and the recent OkEX massive margin call.

A lot of inexperienced people have been theorizing that it's could be "whales": either cashing out, hedging or trading on insider knowledge. All of those are extremely unlikely in my opinion and I'll briefly explain why.

In a market as illiquid as $BTC, broadcasting a VERY noticeable net short position with a clearly defined entry makes you a clear target for large players who want to enter the market sitting on the sidelines in cash. We saw many OkEX #1 holders get hunted during the 2017 run.

I would argue that no sane risk manager would permit traders to take visible net short positions on an asset as volatile as bitcoin.

OTC has the potential for getting front ran by other large players so what this person/firm has done is ensure liquidity and SPOT fills at a predetermined price. They essentially created the liquidity for themselves by margin shorting (borrowing funds) to fill their spot bids.

This allows them to remain delta neutral (-funding). I suppose their endgame would be for the market to rally, and to have their short positions liquidated (max lev 3.3x) turning into 10k btc of buys to further push the market in one direction. They also have their spot filled.

My take is this is a fairly large fund/billionaire entering the market with minimum slippage. The use of hidden walls is the biggest tell that he's attempting to entice people to sell into his bids, so my takeaway is that this indeed is the opposite of the Okex synthetic put.

To summarize...
Rise in margin shorts could be, in order of probability:
-Billionaire/Fund filling spot via synthetic call
-Broker filling spot for OTC order (some form of arbitrage)
-Directional traders with huge pockets battling
Either way it's going to be a fun month!
So the idea is that the cost of liquidation is less than what the slippage of entering the long position without the offsetting shorts would have been? with the added benefit of being delta neutral + liquidity for exit.

MakerDAO Qs Part 3
by coltonrobtoy

(Part 1, Part 2)

I spent my entire first 3 weeks of August reading everything about the MakerDAO System. I came up with ~40 Qs I still had about the System after getting through all my Chrome Tabs. All Qs are here.

Rich recommended I try to crowd-source the answers from the Community over the next 1-2 Weeks to try to get them all answered, so here I am.

Can MKR Holders vote then sell their MKR right after voting?
What are the Timeline-Series-of-Events for MakerDAO/Maker Foundation/DAI/Everybody Else during USD Hyperinflation?
Will the 20% Principle leave less money to support a ‘peg’? Was the money in the Maker Fund ever planned to be used to support the peg or be used for market making on Exchanges?
Who are the Global Settlers? How are they chosen? Are they public? How many of them will there be?
What happens if ETH price changes after Global Settlement is triggered?
Ex: GS at 300 Dai for 1 ETH, ETH doubles in price. Does the USD value of Dai double as well?
Ex 2: GS at 300 Dai for 1 ETH, ETH halves in price. Does the USD value of Dai halve as well?

Which Block Producers are performing well, and which cheaped out on hardware? Let's look at some graphs!
by james_pic

One interesting characteristic of EOS is that CPU billing isn't calculated objectively, as on other chains, but measured. When a block producer looks at including your transaction in a block, they run it, time how long it took to run, and deduct that amount of CPU from your account.

This makes it even more important to vote for good block producers. If block producers have cheaped out on hardware, then they'll take longer to process your transaction, which costs you more CPU, and reduces the scalability of the network. Even worse, a malicious block producer could deliberately overcharge for transactions they didn't approve of, effectively censoring them.

Luckily, all the data you need to figure out who's performing best is on the blockchain, so I wrote a tool to plot the latest performance data for the block producers in graphs. If you want to look at some graphs, I'm running an instance of it at https://eos-bp-performance.duckdns.org, or if you want to run it yourself, the source code is at https://github.com/jamespic/eos-bp-performance.

I'll spend the rest of this post rambling about the current data (although the data on the site should always be the latest). An ideal block producer will have low, and consistent, transaction times.

What happens if scatter is chrome extension is hacked?
by littleboy0k

What would happen if the chrome extension is hacked. Would it expose all our private keys to the hacker? Or, are the private keys securely encrypted and not even the hacker or the scatter team can access them?

      Soleone
yes, they are encrypted with your scatter password.
the extension or desktop app should not be possible to get hacked.
the only realistic attack vector there would be that you install a fake version of scatter which includes malicious code where it asks for your scatter password, decrypts your keys and then sends them over the internet to the scammer.
always make sure where you install software from, not just scatter. any bad app could in theory include malicious code to e.g. listen to what you copy into your clipboard and if it looks like a private key send it over the internet to someone.

Steem on EOS
by Jaybea1953

I was going to buy some Steem...then I remembered rumour Dan is releasing a newer better version on EOS. Maybe it’s not the time to buy the old Steem? Apparently its improved recently. Anyone have some insight? I figured better to ask here than the Steemit site. Please and thanks in advance

      AGameDeveloper
Its hard to say but I feel like EOS is just going to fucking dominate long term. I use Steem every day, Dlive streaming and everything.... I am going mostly in EOS personally... But I will try to have at least some steem left over for cross posting.

Honestly, if both platforms do well then cross posting basically can double your income. The most IDEAL situation will be that you are in both and both do well. But lets be realistic... Dan is going to be brutal towards steem...

EOS and Blockchain Gaming
by Ozons99

This is totally not to bash EOS, crypto, EOS knights. Just wanted to post my thoughts after trying out EOS Knights and being exposed to EOS blockchain. Also writing it here because currently it seems this is only tech that can host such applications as games where actual trading and leveling is happening.

So basically situation is bad it seems. And no problem is not in game its in EOS CPU. I am an EOS enthusiast so therefore I have coins to stake. I stake approx 15 for cpu = 90$ to play it actively. Because I am reaching max cpu capacity sometimes. Who would ever want to play ANY picture/card game for 90$? My World of Warcraft subscription costs 13$ Of course I can't make money there and it's not a decentralised game, but still if a regular user will have to spend 90$ just to click on pictures, what kind of mass adoption we are talking about.

If I was my dad who has never heard about blockchain but would only hear that you can make money playing games I want just to login into my account and start killing goblins for 5 hrs non stop and start trading digital assets not spend 90$ to try trade cotton for 0.01eos. Why would a guy staking 200 eos have possibilities to play nonstop than anyone just hearing about such game? What's the motivation for a regular Joe to spend his hard earned dollars to do heavy staking just to click few buttons?

Let’s defend against 51% attacks by masternode mining all even numbered blocks
by Technologov

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_double-spend_attacks_on_Equihash-based_cryptocurrencies

After 51% attacks on small altcoins, including Bitcoin Gold, (BTG) Litecoin Cash (LCC), and Horizen (ZEN), I think we can defend our coin Dash, by requiring that Dash miners produce odd numbered blocks, while Masternodes produce all even numbered blocks.

This way Dash will be resistant up to 51% PoW + 51% PoS attacks. The additional benefit, is that it will cut miners benefits in half, and thuse electricity costs.
