        Initial coin offering. It is the way start ups in the blockchain world raise money - often instead of VC money. They offer coins to investors. there are risks as it is unregulated but it is like having the chance to get involved in a seed funding round (with the commensurate gains if you pick a good one to invest in). Plus unlike equity which is tied up until an IPO or acquisition, the coins are liquid and tradeable on exchanges like bittrex
