The story of the transaction costs $ 300,000.

The error is human ! But this time, its' a mistake that will cost more than $ 300,000 to the wrongdoer. The good news is that this error may benefit a lucky Ethereum network mining pool.

On Tuesday 19 February, a strange transaction occurred on the Ethereum network. An individual paid 2100 ethers of transaction fees to send 0.1 ETH! At the time of transcation, these 2100 ETHs accounted for more than $ 300,000. It is conceivable that the issuer of this transaction must have believed 2100 gwei (or 0.0000021 ETH) instead of 2100 ETH.

The transaction has been validated at block 7 238 290. The TxHash for this transaction is shown below on the ETH Etherscan explorer: https://etherscan.io/tx/0x1f73b43dc9c48cc131a931fac7095de9e5eba0c5184ec0c5c5f1f32efa2a6bab

It is the Chinese mining pool Sparkpool that had the chance to win the jackpot, by validating this specific block. However the mining pool has temporarily frozen the 2100 ETH to wait for the sender to contact them to find a solution. If the sender does not respond within the next few days, Sparkpool will allocate these costs to minors.
