Presidential candidate promises to adopt cryptocurrency in case of victory

Nigerian opposition leader Atiku Abubakar, a presidential candidate, has pledged to induct cryptocurrency in the country in case of victory. This statement was followed by explanations of the need for Nigerians to approach technology as a source of development. He therefore mentioned in his political document the outlines of this ambitious project.

A candidate open to cryptocurrency

It's not every day that a presidential candidate includes cryptocurrency in his program, yet Atiku Abubakar, former vice president and candidate in the upcoming Nigerian elections has put Blockchain technology first in a development perspective .

This special mention throughout his program thus focuses on a knowledge-based economy based on information and communication technologies, namely, DLT.

He declares :

"My mission is to ensure that the Nigerian economy is responsive to the challenges of the 20th century knowledge economy, while respecting the incredibly dynamic technological pace. "
In this perspective, he announces that his government (in case of election) will propose a system of literacy technology in the curriculum of students from primary to university.

Also, page 49 of his program, we read:

The development of a global policy on Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies by the relevant government agencies. The terms of this mandate will ensure that these areas are regulated and managed to provide employment opportunities and incomes to the Nigerian government and people. The regulations will inform informed decision-making in this $ 278 billion industry with 1,800 currency types.

Blockchain technology seen by the government

Despite these promises, Atiku is still far from applying this program because not only will he face 50 candidates, but the government of his main opponent (the current president and also candidate) seems undecided on the issue of cryptocurrency.

During his tenure, Muhamadu Buhari only managed to investigate the positive and negative aspects of the Blockchain without making a decision on the regulations, leaving the financial institutions to decide his fate. To this end, the Nigerian Central Bank has commented on the stormy nature of cryptocurrency as a "bet".

Many Nigerian crypto-users are waiting for this achievement with firm feet, hoping that luck can turn out for the candidate open to technology . In his policy document, Abubakar states:

"The nations that will prosper are those that take a comprehensive and agile approach that infuses rapid technological advances in all areas of governance and policy to address the problems of insufficient technological infrastructure, funding and data base. "
