I disagree that there is too much Ether in circulation. When compared to FIAT currencies, there is very little Ether. If it were ever to be mass adopted, very few people could own more than a few ETH. Regardless, smart contracts are really the selling point for Ethereum. Being able to create systems that run on Ethereum makes it much easier to adopt than Bitcoin and Litecoin.
