Please Advise me: how can a successful film director use blockchain and social media to raise finance and/or seed interest for the next film?steemCreated with Sketch.

Dear Steemians

I'm involved in the early stages of a new mass market movie which will have a a successful film director behind it. We have a meeting to discuss the storyline and financing next week. I want to take to the meeting some ideas about a) whether blockchain/cryptocurrency/ICO itself could be used as part of the financing vehicle and what that would mean and how it might work so that it benefits from the blockchain and isn't just hype and b) whether or how you think one could build up a social media following using sites like steemit (or any other) during the making of the film such that when it is launched (assuming it is good which it will be) people will virally want to tell their friends about it and get them to come. For example are there things you'd be interested in learning about during the making of the film without the film being given away and the surprise being ruined?

Please note that the question being posed here is not about how to beg people for money (!) but to come up with an idea about how the blockchain and ICO add value to the process of financing and where people investing get a return probably linked to the film's success.

I think the debate you generate with me on this will not only help me specifically but may open up all sorts of ideas to others thinking of raising finance for a wide variety of initiatives and/or looking to use social media where perhaps it hasn't been used that much before.

If any of you have the necessary skills to help me please say in the comment what you could bring and if you are willing to help if we did pursue this.

Thanks in advance

Love

Katy xx

Sorry but how you wrote it a little bit chaotic. It's a little bit unclear. However I try to understand what do you mean. I think mother platform where the coin would be connected with the cinema world would possibly work. I believe that creating cinema around it, fund raising for new projects, revenue etc...... Similar thing as singulardtv is creating. The film industry is massive! I think funding film it would be show of the cryptocurrency world. On the other note I could see some random guy wanna be a film director make millions in funds in crypto for his film. The problem with blockchain in my opinion it's that most of this new companies doesn't hit noone, it looks good on paper however to bring it to life it's a hard work. It's also the problem with steemit I've notice a lot of wanna be a writer, wanna be ass licker of the whale, people posting tacky stuff and getting pay for this, I believe natural selection will get them at some point. You got my upvote for trying:)

Thank you - I'll have a look at singulardtv - I didn't' know about them. If anyone else has any views about this or other approaches please add them to this discussion.

Not really, you are just begging people for money and tying it to some blind promise.
You could however blog the filmmaking process here and earn some while making it.

No the idea was ABSOULUTELY NOT to be begging people for money. I was thinking more in terms of an ICO linked so some of the film's profit in some way. My intuition is there is a cryptocurrency/ICO way to do this but I want to find a real use for the blockchain in doing it. I think there is one and hoped the community might help me alight on some ideas for doing so (and skills to help make it happen if we decided to)

PS @shaz your idea about blogging about the film's process might be good. what sort of things would you like to know about it?

Well I also have some experince in production and have found out that people who have never been involved in the process don't actually understand how movies are made.
Show some sets and maybe even describe some chaos which always reaches the set. How to turn shit into gold, teach Steemit how movie magic is made.

OK cool - thank you for that. Helpful ideas.

I just think that it might be easier to find funding for your film through more conventional means, tying it with a coin might just take too much effort and you risk wasting a lot of your time.

OK thanks you may well be right. I just thought I'd explore the idea. If we did use it wouldn't be for the whole funding but just a part. I'm very interested in blockchain use cases and one of the challenges is to work out when not to use blockchain but to use conventional methods - so even if this is the conclusion I will have learnt a lot from the interaction with people like you. So thank you for your input - much appreciated. If anyone else chimes in please do add further to the discussion.

Your idea is brand new, so expect resistance. The most important thing is a vision. Do you have a vision? Pursue it, with or without blockchain at this stage.... followed ya

Thanks the film has a strong vision and we are putting together a plan to raise finance in a conventional manner. It is just me who wondered whether any of the financing could be raised in an innovative way via ICO/blockchain and what that might mean. Thank you for reminding me though that even asking the question about doing something new will meet with resistance and not to be discouraged by that as I seek out ideas. I'm open to finding a good idea - or backing off and realising that however powerful blockchain is it might not be the best approach for this particular initiative. Right now I'm just exploring the options.

Personally I am a strong supporter of new innovation like yours. I am new to this crypto world. I bought my 1st crypto coins on April 2017. I am impressed. I think blockchain is the thing to go in the near future. When I read your posting I was seeing something new already. So please don't ever get discouraged. Please never....ever give up.

@katythompson I've heard this so many times film has strong vision.... I've worked on numbers of film sets. What film, who is directing it ? What gear will be used? Is it feature or short.... Does it have full script ? What is budget aim ?

Thanks @mynewlife. I'm not ready to divulge that information yet but obviously will do once we are ready to start financing in a few weeks. The first phase of financing will get the screenplay written. the second phase of financing will be for production. The film director has just made a successful 5m pound film (cost to make) that has just started general release and is expected to make a profit. The purpose of my questions here are simply around whether and how blockchian/ICO could be used for film financing - and if so how - assuming someone had a robust idea for a film in the first place which as you point out is an important pre-requisite. The proposed new film would be a feature film not a short and would go to cinema, DVD, streaming etc.

Great

Well not sure about ideas for your platform, but if you blog about the whole process of your future film you might get some funding. You got my vote and I am waiting for your new post.

Ok magic thanks. We have a meeting on Sunday and I'll bring that up as an idea then.
