Finally, we have already embarked the era wherein the trend of incorporating AI or Artificial Intelligence greatly succumbs the lives of every human being in a very advantageous way. From manual to self-driving cars, human to virtual game opponents, and customer representatives to online bot customer supports, AI has indeed been a great contribution to make our lives easier through executing fast and efficient connections.

Though AI’s stages of development seem a bit complicated to grasp especially for non-techy people like me, it is indisputable that AI still needs the input of a human intelligence. After all, artificial intelligence is just an extraction of how humans interact and associate with external stimuli. Besides, the algorithms of AI machines are designed to mimic the usual response of an ordinary person without any human intervention.

To think, this is only the beginning stages of transcending the human intelligence through AI, how much more in the next years to come?

Effect Network: The Rise of a Decentralized Network for Artificial Intelligence

The growing market of AI is already unstoppable. Though this is a great news to the financial technology industries, the innovations of AI aren’t still widely accessible to the large mass. In fact, huge corporations like Google, Facebook, and Amazon who pioneered the AI technology are innovating their AI system behind closed doors.

Just imagine if the AI market continues to rise, slowly eliminating the need for labor through replacing intelligent pieces of machinery and intellectual virtual networks, what will happen to the workforce then? Does this mean human intelligence will matter less in the long run?

Well, it could be, especially if AI developments will be limited to an organization or an entity alone.

How about this way, instead of doing the actual work themselves, the labor force will be the ones to feed the necessary inputs to perfect the algorithms of the AI as their counterparts. Sounds good, yeah? It may sound like a win-win situation but there’s still a great problem here – Accessibility.

To aid such difficulty, The Effect Network was established by Effect.AI to make the developments of AI accessible to everyone using the power of blockchain. The decentralized nature of blockchain wherein the presence of third-party entities or middlemen are being eliminated, making the artificial and human intelligences’ barrier come down to a thin invisible line.

How the Effect Network Works

With the aim of replacing several existing services in the current AI market, Effect.AI will be deploying the project in three consecutive phases powered by the NEO Blockchain: EFFECT Mechanical Turk, EFFECT Smart Market, and EFFECT Power

A quick overview of each phase:

• Phase 1: EFFECT Force. This first phase is requiring a human intelligence under a decentralized mechanical turk called Effect Force. NEP-5 tokens, a cryptographic form of payment, will be given to the worker who completes the task required after training or testing the artificial intelligence projects.

• Phase 2: EFFECT Smart Market. This is a decentralized platform, creating an open marketplace where AI services are available for buying and selling. AI developers can sell, rent, or give out services through effect token transactions as a form payment.

• Phase 3: EFFECT Power. The last phase of the Effect Network where decentralized and distributed computational platform will be raised to eliminate the computational power weakness of AI through partnerships or creating applicable frameworks.

After laying the necessary information about The Effect Network, let us take a closer look at this project’s first phase: EFFECT Force (Decentralized Mechanical Turk).

The first phase will run on a decentralized platform called The Effect.AI Mechanical Turk (EMT). This will serve as a peer-to-peer marketplace between Requesters and Workers. The Human Intelligence Tasks (HIT) will be given by the Requesters and will be completed by the Workers in return for EFX Tokens as compensation.

This is basically how the tasks between the Requester and Worker Interfaces work starting from the task registration down to the sending of payouts based on the completed tasks of every Worker.

Now, let us set aside the technical terms and focus more on the effects and the impact of this Effect Force.

How can Effect Force help employment in developing countries?

As what I’ve mentioned at the start of this post, the rise of AI could mean the fall of human intelligence in terms of market demand. However, if Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence could meet half-way through this Effect Force platform, great job opportunities will be created especially for developing countries like Philippines where internet is widely accessible.

After seeing this demo video of the Effect.AI team on how to navigate the Effect Force platform, I learned that tasks are as simple as defining the flashed pictures. Completing Human Intelligence Tasks (HITs) is not as hard as you think for even ordinary people without extraordinary skills nor above average IQ can always take part in the task completion.

Take a look at this sample task wherein you just have to select the descriptions that could best describe the picture. It is very easy that even regular students can partake. Completing tasks in the Effect Force platform could also be of great help to those who are having difficulties in competing with the corporate world. Through working with this platform, the worker can gain the advantage of having a flexible working time as completing HITs can be done anytime, anywhere.

As what I’ve understood in the demo video, the compensation will vary depending on the degree of tasks executed. Since the payout’s transparency is already embedded in the Effect Force platform algorithms, I am confident to say that this would cause a big hit to the global market, not to mention the instantaneous visibility of payouts through cryptographic tokens after completing every task.

The fair and instant pay will surely invite individuals in building the AI industry being run in a decentralized platform, thus creating a healthy relationship between supply and demand.

Various problems that may arise in micro-tasking

Of course, there is still a great possibility for a Worker to rape this AI Effect Force network. Since tasks can be very simple as clicking description options, one can always find a way to make his life even more easier by just clicking random answers not really relative to what is being shown. Worse, a worker could just use bots to do the work for him.

But fret not for Effect.AI had already managed to sort this one out by getting the average of the inputted data from different users. If your answers are a bit far from the average responses, then it is likely that you are negatively taking advantage of the platform. As a consequence, your reputation could go down, disallowing you to get access to most of the tasks. The lower the reputation, the lower the opportunity for you to get access of the HITs in the Effect Force Mechanical Turk platform.
