REMME is a Ukrainian startup that works in the field of computer security. It develops solutions to provide complete protection of devices without passwords. Today, REMME is actively developing and already has working solutions in the state of the pilot program.

If earlier people resorted to security guards to protect information, with the advent of the Internet era, there was a need to create a new, digital way. Passwords looked like good solutions then. The problem is that people do not want to remember long combinations, preferring the most simple ones, contrary to the security recommendations.

Statistics show that the most common password in the world is `1,2,3,4,5,6`. This gives fraudsters access to a lot of data. In addition, obtaining a single password, due to the frequent use of a single combination for most services, creates a new security problem. So, having got only one password, with its help, or on its basis, fraudsters can pick up a combination of options for all inputs.

The network also quite often records cases of password leaks stored on a single server, which indicates an initially inefficient way of organizing protection.

The new way to protection with REMME

REMME eliminates passwords, thus eliminating errors and the possibility of gaining access for scammers. Efficiency is achieved by working on the blockchain and the introduction of a new security system.

In the framework of the project, each device is given its own SSL certificate. It is stored on the blockchain, which means that the fake certificate will never be accepted by the system.

Thus, it turns out that:

  • the scammers lose potential targets for hacking;
  • the system allows to get rid of a central server;
  • all weak links in the chain are eliminated.

The strengths of the project include:

  • integration with various two-factor authentication techniques;
  • complete anonymity;
  • the system allows you to monitor and verify the issuance of all certificates.

REMME brings the blockchain to the public key infrastructure, ensuring that the data stored there is immutable. Problems that REMME solves:

  1. eliminating passwords as the weakest part of the security system;
  2. reducing the risk of attacks;
  3. reducing the cost of corporate security systems.

The dangers that REMME can solve:

  • fishing;

It is noteworthy that more than 90% of account hacks on the cryptoexchanges were phishing.

  • brute force attack;
  • data interception;
  • key selection/password cracking;
  • hacking servers;
  • attack through re-use of keys.

If the device is lost, the user will be able to contact it through two-factor authentication on another device and block access for attackers.

  • The main differences are the following:
  • The financial component is implemented in relation to the fiat currency.
  • Blockchain corresponds to the speed required for certification of gadgets.
  • Blockchain supports the ability to create a private branch that allows providing the best conditions for the integration of organizations of potential users.

First, it is worth noting that there are no passwords in REMME at all. The company does not store any data. This is very important because whatever you store if it is centralized, it can be broken. And here only the status of your certificate in the blockchain is saved, not even the certificate itself, because you have it in your hands.

Imagine that you arrive at the airport and go through a passport control — you are checked in a database of wanted persons. REMME went the same way. If you enter some site, you show there the certificate created by REMME. It functions as a passport — and to show it, you need to press the login button. Then the server goes to the blockchain to check if it is active. If everything is in order, it lets you go further.

If you need to make changes, you can create a new certificate. This is no problem and will cost quite cheap for companies. REMME target audience is large-scale organizations with a huge number of cyber attacks. REMME task is to remove the possibility to implement some of them. The startup does not protect from them, but simply excludes them. Conditionally "concreting" doors for the thief-and he just can't  get into the apartment.
