BLOCKnews: Top 5 crypto news of the past week

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

So the week is always eventful when it comes to crypto news, as I’m beginning to realise. The crypto world is so volatile, one tiny shift can cause an avalanche.

So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Shonen Crypto
For all the anime and manga fans out there, the first issue of a crypto comic book series called Shonen Crypto has been released. The manga aims to be both entertaining and educational as readers follow the different characters in the manga as they face challenges and learn about various aspects of cryptocurrencies. The manga will be released every 3 weeks or 1 month. And this is what the first issue looks like.

Crypto Mining Malware
Coinhive, Cryptoloot and XMRig are three crypto-mining malware that have been identified (by Check Point Software) as the most threatening malware in Africa over the last few months. Unlike other malware, these 3 hijack your system. Coinhive leeches your machines resources to mine Monero cryptocurrency when a user visits a web page, Cryptoloot uses your CPU or GPU power to add new transactions to the blockchain and XMRig is an open source mining CPU software used to mine Monero software. Let’s do well to find out more about them and be on guard.

Bitcoin Borrowing Programme
Japanese cryptocurrency Bitbank has announced a bitcoin burrowing programme. In what seems to be an attempt to increase liquidity and attract users, the exchange will allow account holders to lend a minimum of 1 BTC to its Virtual Currency Lending Service, in a return for a fixed, predetermined rate of interest. Not just anyone can do this though, the programme oversees a month of “recruitment” for the program, conducting extensive personal and account checks on interested users. Make sure to read the fine print before you agree to anything. Lol

South Korean Gov’t Clears Biggest Crypto Exchange
Bithumb has been ordered to pay $28 million in taxes by the government, however that same government has no evidence of illicit activities, tax evasion and suspicious business activities. Bithumb has, however been under extensive investigation by various government agencies in Korea. The investigation closed this week with the million dollar tax imposed on the company.

Russia Has Crypto Trust Issues.
Putin made it clear, during his annual Q&A hotline session with the Russian public, that the Russian government will continue to tread lightly on the subject of cryptocurrencies. Putin said: “In most countries, cryptocurrency is not a means of settlement. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation believes that cryptocurrencies cannot be a means of payment, settlement or store of value. These currencies are not secured by anything.”store of value. These currencies are not secured by anything.” However Putin did have an opinion on its potential applications, he insisted that Russia should explore the possibility of using cryptocurrencies to “avoid restrictions in global finance and trade”.

Well this is what we have for you from the past week. Catch us next time.
