Asimov's Ghost - Chapter 36 - The Quantum Paradox

It is fair to say that the version of quantum computing we have today is vastly different from what pre-confusion era humans would have classed as a quantum computer.

From as far as we can tell from our elevated and obscured position, it would seem that the early quantum computers were just so, simply because Moore’s ‘Law’ was aggressively pursued till its natural end.

Indeed, the first quantum computers were classical machines containing transistors so tiny, that the uncertainty principle came into play in their operation and almost by accident, the quantum age was born.

It is hard to say exactly when quantum computing morphed into what we have today, but what we can say, is that the machines that house the Qblock and run all the major administrative systems on Earth and in some respects Mars, are as different as the first earth-bound motor vehicle, and a Class-1 AM-Drive solar cruiser.

One imagines that the thing that would mostly surprise a pre-confusion era human about a modern-day quantum computer is that nobody, or at least nobody who admits it, has ever actually seen one.

In fact the lack of technological devices on modern day earth would also probably surprise a 21st century human. Simply by using the game of Empires as an example we can see just how many gadgets and devices the human race were used to. Of course it is easy for us to scoff and laugh at their cumbersome communication devices and an internet you could only interface with via a screen!

But we must remember that if it were not for our beloved nanoswarms and Nplants then we too may be reduced to using our eyes to read text in real time, or even using fingers to type! [R-Link: extra information: - typing an ancient practice used to recreate words on a screen, via a plastic keyboard encoded with letters and symbols related to various human languages. end information:].

It is hard to relate to exactly what benefit could be gained from having access to a personal computer as we are so far removed from the actual machines that do all the work, simply because we don’t need to be any closer.

Any programming a person might want to do is done via QuantumMarkup Code, via the Qblock and we are quite happy using adapted thought processes to control our machinery in the real.

Perhaps it is simply a matter of administration; because it is surely better to leave matters of human organisation to machines that gain no advantage by making one decision over another, than to expose ourselves to the possibility of the ugly monster of human self-interest.

In that respect we have been freed from a decision-making burden in a way that our pre-confusion era cousins never could have been, and for that we must thank the Quantum Fuzzy Programs that run our lives.

It would seem that humans are ruled by machines in this modern age of the story. It would also seem that humans are not aware that they are being ruled by machines. It is insidious, so the control cannot be seen but it is there. The humans depend on the bots for almost everything. How dark would their worlds be if the bots were to stop working?

Yeah, the good old issue of feeling. The entire AI is only being allowed to spread so immensely due to Humans' fear of Love. Humans fear Love so much that they try anything to fend it off, which makes them egotistical and self-centered. In this self-interest in the attempt to escape Love, feelings are being eliminated so as to not have any weak spots left which could entail emotional pain.
