Zeke's Sweet Hops - The Art of Blue Bombing

Oh rejoice you lovers of suddsy refreshing hops! Blue-bombing is a bit of dirty pool but is funny to pull off. I was a victim this weekend and it turned out not so bad. Pull up a pint and join me......

Blue Bombing

The age old Pickleman family tradition of Blue Bombing had its roots back in the high-school days. In short, you would show up to a house party, bring a 6-pack of bullshit beer, and then drink the better beer that other people put in the fridge. Not the most noble of crimes but it is what it is.

That evolved to the point where, at a family cottage, someone showed up with a case of Labbatt's Blue. Probably one of the most recognizable and best selling brands of one of Canada's biggest breweries and I won't slag people who drink it, but it is bullshit beer. Well, that person left the lions share of that swill in the fridge to haunt the corners and backs of the shelves for some months.
You can't throw beer out no matter how bad it is, and you can't force people to drink it either so we had a plan. Every time we were invited to a neighbouring cottage for some drinkin' around the fire, we would being a few Blue, sneak them into their cooler, and leave them with small parts of our dilemma until we were free! The other cottagers are starting to catch on to the pattern and may be close to fingering the culprits. I will let you know when the saga ends and we have to begin anew if someone shows up with some Molson Export or Old Vienna.

I was Bluebombed this weekend

During this yearly family trip, my arsehole brother pulled the dregs from his fridge and they found their way into my cooler. Well played jackass!! So, I gave them a go and it was not all bad!

Grain & Grit - Pineapple Rye Pale Ale - https://www.grainandgritbeer.com/ This one started off on a bad foot in my book for a few reasons. The name of the brewery does not sound very refreshing at all. It is in Hamilton (picture a Canadian Pittsburg with steel plants everywhere and the worst ground water you would ever like to drink.) Then there is Pineapple.....which I would put in a bad beer to mask the bad taste with a sweet and distinct one. The big surprise is that it was good! Not blasted with Pineapple, just a hint to make it a bit sweeter and play nicely with the subtle Rye Malt and nicely done hops. I would buy this again if I were ever cursed to be in Hamilton!

Grain & Grit - Winter White Stout - https://www.grainandgritbeer.com/ - This started on the right foot with a good tasting of the Pineapple Rye, I like Stout, and I like different. Poured similarly to the pale ale with a little less head. Then it all went wrong when it found its way inside my face. Neither coffee nor Cacao to speak of, unimpressive body, and it tasted like someone stirred one of those hotel-sized tubes of toothpaste into it. Any taste or hop (22IBU) we washed away by an annoying Crest aftertaste that lingered long enough to remind you how bad it was. I was on the headset playing Borderlands 2 with the BlueBomber and reminded him with every drink how shitty a beer he had left me with. He was pleased.

I have a whole lot of beers to review and report but will leave you with the legend of the Blue Bomber.

Is there a different name for this in your area? Are you inspired to teleport the dregs of your fridge in the direction of an unsuspecting recipient? Please report back or @zekepickleman if you have or do pull one of these off!

Awesome post mate, you really do need to get your posts into the weekly #BeerSaturday competition. Check out the rules since you'll need to change your tags a little. :)

Haha thanks!

I generally post for the love of beer and am glad I found another group of suddz lovers here. I am a weekend warrior though and tend to miss the Saturday posts in the summer. Will try.

Hahah we have similar "custom" with my friends...there's this one disgusting beer in Slovakia and always when we go somewhere for couple of days, we buy couple of packs of it among the other good beers :D and of course noone even touches it the whole time..and usually last day, when all good beers are gone, someone suddenly appears with that beer in hand :D we call that person a "black Peter" :D...but yeah, we eventually always drink all the bottles :D

Haha yah! Black Peter.

Universal tactic!

Term for that. We always just called out that person and called them cheap.
