Hello again Steemians! This article is centered around our Crypto-Renaissance event which is the first Steem-powered public exhibition in New York. This show will professionally showcase the tools and resources built for creative professionals on the Steem blockchain and specifically how @sndbox members have integrated them into their practice and daily lives. Today we documented one of the essential parts of the Bushwick, the graffiti art! The public art, graffiti, and local life of Bushwick is one of a kind, and truly is its own experience.

Bushwick's Graffiti: Contemporary Expression

As you explore Bushwick, almost every nook and cranny of the neighborhood will have some sort of graffiti or public art. Graffiti itself has a very diverse identity that can be interpreted with different meanings. Most people in general perceive graffiti as a kind of public art, but it consists of many categories, such as a form of expression for artists, hip hop enthusiasts, or more dangerous tagging for gang members and such. The abundance of graffiti along with the warehouses that are repurposed to serve different functions knit together Bushwick, establishing its own identity through a public art foundation.

In conclusion, graffiti provides individuals with an opportunity to express who they are, where they come from, what their hardships were, etc.

People of Bushwick

The main demographic for Bushwick took many interesting turns throughout its history. Bushwick was initially a working-class neighborhood, initially filled with German immigrants. By the late 20th century, it became predominantly Hispanic. In 2008, it was the 7th most impoverished neighborhood in New York City, with more than 75% of children in Bushwick being born in poverty. But after a certain point, Bushwick received widespread attention for its abundance in street art, graffiti, and post-industrial setup for upcoming startups, while attracting hipsters both near and far.
