Embrace The Suck!

in #ctp5 years ago

We used this term a lot when I was in the Navy. They may still use it today. What does it mean?
(military, slang) To consciously accept or appreciate something that is extremely unpleasant but unavoidable.
Accept Failure! Even enjoy it a little! For the suck is part of the process!

You may be familiar with a currently popular book called "Eat the frog", same concept. In business as in life, there is a lot of unpleasantness. Contrary to popular opinion, we should not run from these situations. You will spend so much time avoiding things, it would have been easier to just deal with a few moments of "suck" in the first place.
We, as human beings, tend to gravitate towards, quick, easy, painless. I get it and I am guilty of doing the same thing. We live in a culture of instant gratification. "I want it 5 minutes ago! " Seems no one wants to do the work anymore.

Start your day with the vilest, disgusting, reprehensible thing in your daily list. It can only get exponentially better from there. Will it suck? Absolutely! So what? It's gotta get done at some point. Would you rather do it first or as the final act of the day, when you're tired and beat?

If you experience failure, pick yourself up and make a note to never do that thing again. You can cry and whinge about it or say "that didn't work, let's try something else." The only thing you can really control is how you react to a situation and what you do going forward. I read something the other day and I'm paraphrasing here "If you want something, you'll make it happen, if you don't, you'll make excuses".
What's it gonna be today? Progress or excuses? Only you can decide that.
As always just my .02¢ YMMV

Oh yes... Sooner or later, we will fail in something... And not just once... many times... Accepting that and moving forward is the key to success...

We learn more from a single failure than all of our success together, but only if we do pick ourselves up after and apply what we have learned, great advice @athomewithcraig.
