The tiger is one of the most magnificent and fierce creatures from the animal kingdom. Although largely overshadowed by the lion, its compatriot from the cat family, by no means is tiger second to any and it is well capable of standing up to the mighty lion with its strength and athleticism. Let’s look into some amazing facts about the mighty tiger.
Tigers are the largest species from the cat family which consists of lions, leopard, cheetah etc.
Tiger weighs up to 360kg and measures up to 3.3m long. In comparison, a lion weighs up to 310kg.
Tigers, unlike other members of its family, are not shy of water and very good at swimming.

Although they are big in size, by no means are they slow. In fact, a tiger can run at a speed of 65km/hr. (next time you sight a tiger, keep ample distance from it).
The average lifespan of a tiger is 14 years but quite interestingly around half of the tiger cubs don’t live beyond 2 years.
The tiger family consists of subspecies like Sumatran Tiger, Bengal Tiger, Siberian Tiger, Indochinese Tiger, Malayan Tiger and, South China Tiger.
Tiger cubs are born blind. So, they have to be protected by their mother till they grow up.
