[vlog #6] Dry Bags - What It Is and Creative Uses

in #cycling6 years ago (edited)

Hooray Readers! Bringing yet another fun and useful video to the community- Mr.P on Video!

Travelling and exploring nature with a backpack on your shoulders may be one of the best experiences you may have. Sometimes a day trekk or a multi-day camping trip can be reinvigorating; some of us prefer a city exploration though, where we might still walk with a backpack carrying all the clothes, electronics and documents.

However, all those experiences can turn into a big frustration if you find yourself below heavy rain or if you fall into a river on your favourite trail. There's nothing worse than having your equipment wet, especially the electronic ones, the damage can go way beyond some wet clothes.

One of the ways to protect your backpack is by using a waterproof cover, but in some cases even that can fail. What can you do then? Simple! You'll need to protect what's inside the backpack, granting that your stuff will remain dry even if you end up falling in a river.

On this video I'll skip all the techniques on how you can protect your backpack items, there are some creative ones, but that's for another post. Instead, I'll jump directly to the Dry Bags, a simple solution that will not only keep your stuff dry, but will also provide you some other utilities. Afterall, if a piece of equipment can serve multiple purposes, then you should have it. Enjoy!

Dry Bags? Keeping Stuff Dry and Creative Uses

Video Summary

Dry bags or dry sacks, as the name sugests, are sacks to carry stuff inside with the functionality of being waterproof. Made of various materials they can come in different sizes and weights, if you are a mountaineer the weight might be an issue.

They can be used to organize clothes or electronics in your backpack, or to protect your belongings if you go to the beach; it's always good to have at least one in your daily backpack just in case you get caught in a sudden rain. Throw your cellphone, camera, wallet or anything inside and you are good to go.

Using a Dry Bag

As showcased in the video, the dry bags are very simple to use. Put everything inside, roll the top and clip - as simple as that.

Creative Uses

Here comes the awesome part, remember that a good equipment should have at least two uses? Dry bags can have many.

  • Full of air they can become pillows
  • Full of water they can become a shower or even a water container
  • Throw dirty clothes, soap and water, and there you have a washing machine

I have used my dry bags on all the listed cases without any problem or damage to the sacks, so here lays the tips. If you really want to see how it works and take a closer look, check out the video, I'm sure it's worth it.

Love all the creative uses, only used it to keep my equipment dry but as I learned, there are many more uses for the bag.

You see! Multi purpose tools, the best we can have @for91days. Thank you for passing by even when we are working like crazy

this would probably be good for extra camera safety when you know the weather will not be great.
Thanks

Hey @bil.prag, thanks for passing by! Yes indeed, it's always good to have one in our backpack, they folded they don't use any space, great to have just in case.

Hey, I didn't mean to upvote this with the cyclefeed account. I thought I was logged in under my own account.

Hahah no proble, the funny thing is that @for91days had warned me about doing that earlier today.

I bought a Scrubba bag which is basically a dry sack with a valve and scrubbing nodules to help wash your clothes. I guess you could make something like that out of any dry sack, as far as something to rub against your dirty clothes. I really love the valve though as it let's you basically squeeze the bag down to a compact size.

Oh yeah, those ones are handy ideed. Check out the e-vent one from Sea-to-Summir, it has a crazy system on the material where air goes out, but doesn't go in.
