Dear @Dtube #43 // clearing physical space to make my own mental space, @updates ahead! :)

in #daily-vlog6 years ago

Man I feel like the last two weeks alone have stretched out like a month, I feel like so much has been done — I guess with all the movement and change energy that’s why it feels that way.

It’s like when I used to prep for an event where we did the streaming or audience development, the week after I would feel mentally exhausted, even ill sometimes — you serious use a lot of mental energy focusing up on that stuff and then it hits and then your drained.

It’s a skill that you build up over your digital working life and especially more so when it’s a mobile version of that, your in transition or have a laptop and work from different spaces to get your ‘digital work’ done — you only have to look at the chang mai digital nomads — drop shipping, remote works looking after stores, changing up spaces to work from to do support and to mock up new pages and social campaigns for products.

This month is about cleaning down physical space.

so everything is everywhere, I can feel it taunting me, my bed area is screwed, my long-stock larder does not exist, the shower area (changed to be a audio recording studio VO booth) need work, I need to install a bunch of hardware around the van space and I need to get on top of my transportation situation.

Once my physical space is sorted the mental space is much easier to deal with throughout the day — I’m always incredibly jealous of the Japanese homesteads with their very minimal expressions of a home and when the layout just can breathe easier, I kinda want that — I want everything to be working as it should which means lots of little tweaks around my living and working area to keep on top of things.

hacking your own schedule

Everyday I feel like I have to hack around my schedule to fit everything in at the moment, trust me life is easier when you have less moving parts - always look to lighten the load of the things you have in your life — especially material things as they become this ‘behind the scenes’ burden that over time nags as you until you do something about it.

i realise now that in may time I’ve gotta be preparing for that in march every year, that I’ve got twice as many resources in place OR adjust the need of the resources every time may (the start of summer) rolls around — after harsh winters I want to be able to enjoy the summer and I believe those could be my creative months if I was not so tied down with life logistics in may time, some of the things I can’t change or move. ..

. . . but I can move my attention needed on them, one of them just vanish completely ahead of time and don’t get caught up in the movement energy wake and the other just preparation ahead of time, I’m aware how derailing energy shifts can be for me when I’ve got a bunch of threads running.

when your planning goes to shit

So may was a shit show, plain and simple — apart from the the birthday stuff which I crushed my momentum energy was killed, crushed and buried under the torrent of ‘movement’ energy and the logistics there in, I just could not get restarted and creative again which threw me off my work and I had to reset again, which made me start from top again.

Now that may is gone and we are back to some kind of level of normality it’s allowed me to focus on this month. I’ve got goals for this month, big goals to get on track with my health, fitness and rest.

I’m fine with burning the candle at both ends in these months when I don’t have the resources to travel but I’m keen to get things in place that allow that in the next few months after and set things up for november time when I go into bear mode and the heater goes on and I catch up with months of films and content.

meditation is your friend

I can’t state the value of take 15 minutes out away from technology and just zoning out to the sounds around you. The amplification it steadies your mind and all the things just fall away. I get back to my machine with a clearer narrative and am able to find my focus better. It takes time to be good at it for sure, I prefer my own space for that — the low hum of the tractors at the start of the week masking the sounds of the air coolers blowing on my computer.

disconnect

Honestly, I can’t tell you how much this is the move sometimes, I’m hoping to do this tomorrow or thursday — just unplug from anything with a screen, even if it’s just to enjoy a coffee in a place or getting on a bus and looking at the world out of a window, our brains need a balance otherwise we just overload on information — may was very much like that for me, you just need to unplug and have a chat around coffee or fire a bunch of beers down you and party! :)

Look forward to updating you about my bed fixes this month as I try and build myself something better! :)
