This girl may be getting some sisters today. Her face says she's tired of these cocky little roosters everywhere. I agree with her.

We're headed to the big market a bit north of us. It's kind of a flea market and farmer's market. Supposedly it's pretty big. but we've never been. If we see some pullets for a good price I'd like to pick up a few. Need some extra female presence around here. Something that doesn't crow all day.

Couple things:

You'd be wise to quarantine any new arrivals for a few weeks, just good bio-security.

You have to be careful putting new birds in old bird areas. There could be some fights to the death. It's best to either slowly allow them to become adjusted to each other, but not get at each other (side by side pens/coops) which I've used successfully OR

Putting the new arrivals into the coop after dark and the others have gone to roost. You have to do this without lights or rousing the old birds. Many say this method works, but I've never tried it.

Since I don't have a second run, I'll have to try the night approach and report back. :)

My husband says our rooster "mistake" (all supposed to be pullets) is headed for the stewpot next week. My husband can NOT stand crowing....

Oh no! Too many roosters!

Yeah, it's not so bad with just one, but the others crowing at the same time all day (and their raspy prepubescent voices) is too much.

Just wanted to let you know that I have a podcast account on Steemit. I am trying to get a bit more active on there.
And agree on the quarantine - better safe than sorry.
