Almost Killed on Assumptions
BIBLE READING:
Acts 21: 27-40
Qs. 5. See Questions HERE.
DISCUSSION:
Observe in today's reading how false rumours spread and cause trouble! Some of the Jews from the province of Asia had misunderstood the Gospel that apostle Paul preached. They misinformed the Jewish crowed in Jerusalem who seized Paul and manhandled him. What were their allegations? We're they true? Thank God that the Roman troops came to Paul's rescue.
Religious intolerance and violence are not acceptable in any society. It was through such intolerance that Stephen was stoned to death (Acts 7:54-60), our Lord, Jesus Christ, crucified (Matthew 27: 20-26) an many innocent people have lost their lives, homes and livelihood in some of our nations.
It is ridiculous that religious issues are often managed by pagans! See the commander's efforts and frustrations at getting to the truth (vs. 33-36). Obviously, he had his own prejudices too (see v. 38). Thus, the victim was arrested and bound for the barracks while his attackers went scot-free. Despite the threat to his life, Paul sought an opportunity to present Christ to the angry crowd. How often to we take advantage of adverse situations to make Christ known?
Thought:
Fear of men brings snare, despite the prevailing situation of your environment, do you have courage to stand for Christ?
Prayer:
Almighty God, save me from peer pressures and crowd effects, and help me to only act on my convictions of what is right based on the leading of your Spirit.
REMAIN BLESSED!
