1. Microsoft, Nasdaq Partner on Blockchain Services

Microsoft Corp. is partnering with Nasdaq Inc. on blockchain technology.
Microsoft said its Azure blockchain services will integrate with Nasdaq’s Financial Framework, which offers software for traders, exchanges and clearinghouses to interact with each other.
The partnership will create a blockchain system that helps different technologies work together for Nasdaq customers. For example, it will make it easier match buyers and sellers, and manage the delivery, payment and settlement of transactions, the companies said.
Nasdaq Financial Framework plans to offer customers the ability to use different blockchains through one common interface, which the company hopes will ease and accelerate blockchain use and let customers choose which option is best for different situations.
The partnership will be announced Tuesday as Microsoft business development chief Peggy Johnson speaks at Bloomberg’s CIO Exchange conference.

2. HSBC, StanChart, others launch HK blockchain trade finance platform

A new blockchain-based trade finance platform, developed by HSBC (HSBA.L), Standard Chartered (STAN.L) and 10 other banks, was launched in Hong Kong on Wednesday to boost efficiency in the multi-trillion-dollar funding of international trade.
HSBC said on Wednesday the platform, eTrade Connect, had allowed the Asia-focused British lender to reduce the time it takes to approve trade loan applications to four hours, compared with the usual one-and-a-half days.
Other major banks who participated in the development of the platform - facilitated by Hong Kong’s de facto central bank, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) - included Agricultural Bank of China (1288.HK) and BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA).
Trade finance transactions were worth over $9 trillion in 2017, but the industry is heavily paper-based, and follows processes and procedures that have changed little in decades, or even centuries.

The e-Trade platform in Hong Kong aims to improve efficiency and facilitate counterparties’ ability to obtain finance by digitizing trade documents and automating trade finance processes by leveraging the blockchain technology.

The eTrade platform will collaborate with European-based digital trading platform We.Trade, which counts Deutsche Bank <DBKGn,DE>, UBS (UBSG.S), and HSBC as its participants, and uses similar technology, the HKMA said in a statement.
