I think the most important exercise for your core strength and thickness of your lower back is DEADLIFT.
It has much more benefits other then above. It is one of the superior compound movements that builds overall strength of your body. And when you do a compound movement your body releases Growth hormones which is very crucial for your maximum Muscle growth and recovery.

But majority of people do it in a wrong way.
Here is the proper form to do it.

1-First of all set up a barbell apparatus.

2-Than stand shoulder width apart keeping bar as close to your body as you can.

3-Grab the bar firmly shoulder width apart keeping you back flat and chest up. Make sure your legs are less then parallel to the ground.

4-Now pull it keeping your back flat, chest high and push through your heals. And then complete the rep.

5-You should only use belt and wraps and when you go super heavy on it.

I suggest you to incorprate it into your Back routine to get advantage of this amazing exercise.
