Decentralized Blogging with Decentium(Dapp Review)

in #decentium5 years ago

I scheme through Stateofthedapps regularly in search of cool blockchain based softwares that I can have fun and possibly earn from. In my recent quest through the land of Decentralised apps, I encountered a blogging platform called Decentium that is strategically embedded in the EOS blockchain.

About Decentium

Decentium is a decentralized publishing and tipping platform where authors own their content and earn money and exposure through endorsements. source

Decentium is basically a blogging platform that runs on EOS blockchain, so to use it, you will need to have an EOS account.
If you already have an EOS account, you will need it to grant the dapp permission to perform activities. I chose to whitelist certain activities to reduce time spent in authenticating certain trivial transactions with my scatter wallet.

Note: I listed a few ways to create an EOS account at the bottom of the post

After login in, you can edit your profile.

  • Input the username you want to be identified by
  • write something about yourself
  • include image link for your profile photo
To upload a profile photo, you can use postimage.org or any other upload service of your choice
  • upload the image
  • copy the direct link and paste it in the section for profile image
Click on "My Blog" to see how your profile looks

Decentium is a lot like steemit actually. Users have total freedom of their account and can write about any topic they feel like, without any restriction and at your leisure. You can participate as a reader, Author or both like I intend to do.

The major difference between this platform and steemit is

  • You pay a small fee of $0.1 to the blockchain. This token is used to host and distribute content.
  • There are no ads; this is as a result of the fee paid.
  • Endorsements take the place of upvotes; in this system, your post is endorsed by people who appreciate your content. The endorsements are in various values of EOS, so it means you are basically being paid for creating content by other users.
  • A beautiful feature is that your posts don't have an expiry date like steemit so you can keep earning, as long as people keep appreciating.

It is still relatively new, you can tell from the lack of activity in the area but that's normal for a platform like this. I am not happy with the idea of paying to publish but I also feel like this method will go a long way in curbing the issue of spammers infiltrating the area.
Decentralized blogging is the future and Decentium have given us yet another avenue to communicate with the world. It is easy to use, has a simple and professional user interface, easy navigation and I believe this place will be littered with brilliant articles eventually, with the right type of promotion.

Please tell me what you think about it, comments, your experience and any other information. I would love to hear from
