Keeping The Skies Safe

With the growth in the drone pilots flying for commercial purposes, arises the need for piloting licenses and rules for safe flight for the industry to go forward. Malaysia Unmanned Drones Activist Society (Mudas) executive secretary William Alvisse believes there needs to be a balance between innovation and regulation.

“In the beginning we were worried the Government would ban drones completely. Therefore we wanted to form a community to self-regulate and ensure drones are being used responsibly,” says William.

Mudas, a non-governmental organisation devoted to the development and advancement of drones in the country, is in discussion with CAAM (Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia) on devising training modules and certification for pilots.

Throwing light on the rules, regulations and safe flights, William explains, “Whenever you fly, you’re sharing space with others. If you don’t fly responsibly, you paint a negative brush on the community at large.”
