Design A Character - Genie & Aladdin female edition
Whoop~ Whoop~!
Entered @W0olf's Design A Character contest again (finally) yaay! But then with a theme that involves "re-imagining" (going bananas on) a Disney Character, how the hell can I resist, huge Disney fangirl that I am.
The brief was as follows:
The Reimagine Challenge works like this:
I present you one (or more) existing characters, and you reimagine this Character(s) in a different style, theme, age or even race and gender. :D
There is no limtation, except your imagination :)
And one of the 3 Characters to choose from was the Genie from Aladdin, and because I love gender-bending my favourite characters no matter if it's from male to female or from female to male, and because, huge Disney Fangirl that I am I couldn't resist adding a female Aladdin too.

Drawn on my trusty iPad pro with the Procreate app :)
Pretty straight forward procedure - got meself some reference from good old google of Genie, Aladdin and Jasmin and then just kinda went ahead and sketched away:
Aaand, well then I just coloured it. Pretty simply too, using the colour palette of my reference. Flat colours, just added a few highlights etc in the hair, for some texture.
I used the same brush for pretty much everything - chalk - in the calligraphy tab - with the streamline option turned off, in case you own one and are curious ;)

ooohhh there is plenty of gender bending Disney fan art all over the place! do a quick google search or maybe check on Deviantart. it's not a new idea by any stretch. haha

is it so obvious I struggled with girl-Aladdin's feet??!! nuuuuuuhhhh hahaha
I do indeed not like drawing feet because I suck ass at it, but I still try and put them in whenever I can for practice.
If you're referring to Genie, I kinda wanted her to have just come out of the lamp, so I drew the floaty smokey tail thing instead of the feet he sometimes has.
And I wonder too... it's interesting to think about it because if you turn the story on its head like that it seems completely unbelievable and impossible - and it kinda highlights how sexist a lot of our stories really are. this so wouldn't work the other way around. I mean it would but it would feel odd to us. no?
Well if they were going for historically accurate (which it's not to begin with so that can go out the window too) it totally wouldn't work. If they were just going for a fun story set in fantasy then why not XD
I guessed on the feet thing as Aladdin is barefoot while girlAladdin here has cute little shoes ;D Smoky genie trailing out of the lamp made sense.

oooooohhh right, I forgot Aladdin was barefoot. whoops. I think I was looking at Jasime's Design more since I kinda sorta more or less "switched" them lol. Just used her Design as a basis for this female Aladdin.
