🇩🇪 A beautiful view with a tragic background / Eine schöne Aussicht mit einem tragischen Hintergrund

since we´re back in our Hometown Stuttgart I will start a series of posts about beautiful and interesting sights, museums and other stuff in and around Stuttgart and the south of Germany.
Today I will beginn with historical attraction. It is a little mountain called Bikenkopf also known as Monte Scherbelino. With over 500m it is the biggest Hill within the city.

da wir wieder in unserer Heimatstadt Stuttgart sind, werde ich eine Reihe von Beiträgen über schöne und interessante Sehenswürdigkeiten, Museen und andere Sachen in und um Stuttgart und Süddeutschland starten.
Heute werde ich mit einer historischen Sehenswürdigkeit beginnen. Es ist ein kleiner Berg namens Bikenkopf auch bekannt als Monte Scherbelino. Mit über 500m ist es der größte Hügel innerhalb der Stadt.
You can park your car on the side of the road, from there it is a easy 10min walk to the top. The walk led you through a small forrest with lots of different plants and trees. There are some benches to take a rest and enjoy the view and beautiful nature.
I went there quite early and apart from a few people on their bike I was the only one on top.
Man kann sein Auto an der Seite der Straße parken, von dort ist es ein einfacher 10min zu Spaziergang nach oben. Die Wanderung führt einen durch einen kleinen Wald mit vielen verschiedenen Pflanzen und Bäumen. Es gibt einige Bänke, um sich auszuruhen und die Aussicht und die schöne Natur zu genießen.
Ich bin ziemlich früh dort hingefahren und abgesehen von ein paar Leuten auf dem Fahrrad war ich der Einzige dort oben.
There are 2 reasons this little Hill is famous for. First, you got a pretty good view over the city of Stuttgart. Second and more important reasons is, that in the years 1953-1957 they increased the Hill 40,20m from 471m to 511,20m.
During World War II, 45% of the city of Stuttgart was destroyed in 53 air raids. What remained was 1.5 million cubic meters of debris dumped on this mountain. That is why today it is a monument or memorial.
Es gibt 2 Gründe, warum dieser kleine Hügel berühmt ist. Zuerst hat man einen guten Blick über die Stadt Stuttgart. Zweiter und wichtigerer Grund ist, dass in den Jahren 1953-1957 der Hügel 40,20 m von 471 m auf 511,20 m erhöht wurde.
Im 2. Weltkrieg, wurden in insgesamt 53 Luftangriffen 45% der Stadt Stuttgart zerstört. Was übrig blieb waren 1,5 Mio Kubikmeter Trümmer, welche auf diesem Berg abgeladen wurden. Deshalb ist es heute ein Denkmal, bzw. Mahnmal.
Apart from the tragic history of this place, you will have a beautiful view on Stuttgart. It´s a really good place to enjoy sunset or even the sunrise if you´re an early bird. On new year this place is packed due to the good view of the fireworks.
Abgesehen von der tragischen Geschichte dieses Ortes, hat man einen schönen Blick auf Stuttgart. Es ist ein wirklich toller Ort um den Sonnenuntergang oder sogar den Sonnenaufgang zu genießen, wenn man ein Frühaufsteher ist. An Silvester ist dieser Ort wegen der guten Aussicht auf das Feuerwerk voll.

Tells a story that most people don't know and those that do know have almost forgotten or passed away.
Two wrongs never make a right.
& since then I believe (hope) that humanity is learning that "the enemy of my enemy" is not always a friend, if he is equal to or worse than my current enemy, 9/11 proved this once again as did Stalin (aka communism/socialism) with over 100 million people killed under that totalitarian regime that was allowed to exist for half a century.
I am unfortunately not a whale, but I have used my two votes that I have in the communities I belong to, namely my votes allocated in @umvbot and @anzub for your post as I feel very strongly about this. I lost a grandfather in one of those "air raids" and it just goes to show that there really are no "winners" in any war when we look at it in hindsight.

Your post is much more than just a post, it is a memorial to all the victims of war and to all the children who grew up after the war.

ich muss sagen, dass man erst nach der Reise mehr auf sowas achtet. So geht es auf jeden Fall mir. Früher habe ich das was in Deutschland um mich war nie so intensiv wahrgenommen wie heute.

Gorgeous photos of a place with a sad history. I love the lookout from the top, such an expansive view of the town below its really breathtaking! Love seeing these kinds of posts that share a story, look forward to more :)
