Exercises : Speed Sculpt Fighter

in #devlog5 years ago

There is not much game related work that I have finished over the last couple of days. most of the work fits into fits into the "idea used as exercise but might become part of the game in future" category. The main reasons for this are that whe have had power cuts, and that a new version of Houdini has come out.

The new features that apply to me are pretty technical they are called PDG's and will be very useful. The will however take a long time to get used to.

This exercise is a sculpt using reference of a fighter. I will need to design more enemies and therefore want to have some rougher features. This was also a chance to work no getting the points of the face right as it is always a good idea to work on your anatomy knowledge.

It's amazing how you can create a human head, a skull out of nothing. This is totally new to me, Have never seen it, never done it, so it was interesting to watch. However, I guess it takes a great amount of imagination to do this, not to mention practice. The face expressions are so real here, you really did a great job, congratulations!

What computer program did you use in your exercises?
Its different from Photoshop right?

This is using Zbrush.

Oh Zbrush.
I'd also seen a post using Zbrush.
How long have you been using Zbrush?

It is not an easy question to answer. I have been using it on and off since 2006 but never really used is seriously. I had not really done any 3D work for a few years. I started working with ZBrush properly in February.

So the answer is 3 weeks of 13 years depending on how you look at it.

Oh I see.
You're talented and flexible and could easily manipulate in learning new things I guess.

I have primarily been a 2D animator I also have also been working a lot on anatomy and drawing the figure for the last few years. I also spent about 8 of those 13 years working with more traditional 3D software. Add to that about 30 years worth of drawing every day.

My skills in ZBrush are something that is new but I can progress this quickly only because I have a lot of transferable knowledge.

I have actually been surprised at how good my sculpts have been, when I tried to use it before I had my 3D hiatus all my work was really horrible.

That's a great experience!
I hope you can share your experiences and skills to many people and maybe to your kids.
