What natural disasters have you experienced? How do you deal with the post-disaster panic period!?

I have recently dealt with floods during the month of August this year. Almost 95% of our tiny state was flooded after heavy rains and dam shutter openings. I think about 33 dam shutters were opened in various parts of the state.

The people were unaware of what would happen after dam shutters were opened and so many people opted to stay back home instead of shifting to relief camps which caused loss of life, stranded people without access to food, good water and toilet facilities. Many houses were washed away and still many are even now homeless and settled in camps.

As for me, my family and I moved to another house down the street and were helped by our kind neighbors. Our cows too were moved safely. We came back after the water receded a bit but our well was submerged by the flood waters which was full of filth, floating with septic tank waste and dead worms and all.

At first, we were numbed by it all. There was no power, constant rain, a chill brought about by the increasing water level around the house and scarcity of food. When the waters receded, we rushed to buy food and groceries and were lucky enough to get a few supplies.

The members of steemit were very helpful and donated a lot towards the cause. I was also able to help our lease farmer and my friends whose house was submerged and she lost all stuff.

As for trauma, I felt like crying but held on because at least we were better off than many others and I had the moral support from friends.

Dealing with panic is really tough, especially young children and aged parents. we should make sure that they are comfortable and well looked after. Comfort foods can help a lot in such cases. Personal bonding is also possible during such times because, ironically, there won't be any 'tech stuff' around to distract you from talking to another human.

It is high time human beings think hard of saving the planet from natural disasters which are in most cases brought on by climatic changes.

Needless to say, this is why I consider Steem to be more useful than any other crypto and thank all the people who donated towards this cause.
