First of all, the SCOTUS doesn't "change the law of the land." They give a yea or nay vote on whether Congress's changes to the law of the land are valid, and only that if someone brings a case to them (it's not commonly known but the SCOTUS cannot act on their own: there must be a case for them to rule on).
For another... Justice Kennedy was a centrist?
Maybe on the European spectrum, where even the Right has Socialist leanings.
Ugh... this is why I'm not going home. China is a mess, but at least I understand why it's a mess, and how it became a mess. At least it's a familiar mess; a predictable mess. I never have to wonder what Draconian measures the Communist Party will put into place next because they usually advertise them several years in advance. The American Left, though... they're scary.

Bah, America's Left aren't Socialists. I can tolerate Socialists as long as they are below the State/Provincial level. Socialists can actually manage, on occasion, to run a small affair like a village or township without destroying everything in sight. Socialists tend to be hard-working. Dumb as bricks, and I wouldn't put them in charge of anything larger than that village or township I mentioned, but at the very least they have decent intentions, if not the good sense and realpolitik to back up those intentions.
America's Left is an exercise in insectile thinking, made of wild-eyed fanatics who are determined to destroy anything they deem to be "the establishment" but have no idea what to put in its place, and who all want to be "unique, just like everyone else is" and "rebellious and free-thinking, just like they were ordered to be." Give me Socialists instead of the American Left any day.
