The Death of Melody
This is a very interesting video on how melody has to a large degree ceased to be an expressive tool in modern pop music, film music and even in modern classical music. Possible reasons for this trend are explored in the video.

That was a very interesting watch! Wrt why music doesn't contain great melody anymore, I lean to the facts we are bombarded with music without melody, people tend to like what they hear frequently, most people are followers, and capitalism drives artists to create more of the same; The vicious circle of supply and demand. Will it change over time? Likely. Will melody become great again? Possibly. When? Well, it may take a bit of time, maybe even some decades, or even several generations.
Melody is one aspect of music, albeit a big one. I think this is a case of other aspects such as sounds being emphasized.
Modern popular music is simplified to a very large degree. The question is whether folk music was ever more sophisticated or not.
Swedish people invented Melodic Death Metal beacuse of this.😁🤘😎🤘
Marxist philosophists would explain this as symptom of capitalism nearing it's end. It is called "culture industry" and it happens when capitalism expands to culture it self. Music looses all it's subjective, deeper spiritual meaning, and is considered as manufactorable object.

The simplification and blatant appeal to the lowest common denominator does seem to imply that. But then again many of today’s musical genres go to great lenghts at experimenting with other aspects of music.
