Saddest thing I've read all week........
This is without doubt the saddest thing I've read all week where six elephants fell to their deaths whilst trying to rescue the baby in their herd.
The elephants are part of over 3500 wild Asian Elephants that roam free in Thailand, mainly in protected National Parks, in this case, Khao Yai which is a beautiful area in central Thailand, a couple of hours from where I live and hosts some incredible hiking trails through mountains and forest and spectacular waterfalls like this one where this tragedy happened.
It is reported that rangers are trying to capture 2 other elephants that didn't fall as they are displaying signs of grief and could become dangerous both to themselves and the public who often visit Khao Yai just to watch them.
What a tragic and beautiful story and makes you feel a little better as humans knowing that other species share some of the emotions that we do.
My heartfelt thoughts go out to these beautiful and majestic creatures today in their time of loss.
