Say Cheese: Ransomware-ing a DSLR Camera
Ransomware has become a serious problem in recent years. Researchers at Check Point Software Technologies have shown how to remotely mount malicious code on a DSLR camera, of course, with a network connection, in this case they used Canon's EOS 80D.
They used the PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) to transfer images since it does not authenticate and is used for both wireless and wired data transfer. That's a bonus for the attacker, as he can also access the system from a connected computer.
