In London you can only carry a folding knife shorter than 7.62cm and in Chicago you can only carry knifes shorter than 5.08cm.
Most of Europe have carry bans on knifes longer than 12cm.
Knifes bans is not that far fetched. Knifes bans is what inevitable happens after gun bans. It is indeed the logical next step.

Yes, we should ban knives.
But before that, we should ban sticks and rocks! Because those have been used to kill more people, and if we take away knives, then people will just go back to the old stand-by.
But before that! We should outlaw Di-hydrogen-mon-oxide.
Funny as you say but sticks are banned in the UK. Have a baseball bat in your car can get you arrested if you can't prove you are on the way to a baseball game.
It's a EU law on so called “dangerous objects” — you are only allowed to carry or transport an “dangerous objects” if you have a “socially acceptable” reason to do so. And no, self defence is not “socially acceptable”.
Brexit won't change that as the UK had that law before joining the EU. Probably the EU used the UK laws as template.
