It takes a village to keep Cowichan families together — the Discourse.
It is a great blessing to see news of a new way kindling in the west coast of Turtle Island.
To me family is everything. Children. Grandmothers. These are our foundations built among the land, trees, waters, animals, rocks and wind.
We need to do everything we can to maintain the sacredness of these things.
I have found a very special connection to these lands of the west coast of this region.

Hi @sallybeth23! This particular area is on what is known as Vancouver Island in Canada.
Before North America was colonized it was known to the Native Indians as Turtle Island!
There are likely many much more interesting stories of how the name came to, and I have come across a few of the legends and and enjoyed them but to be honest they are not ingrained in my brain well enough to share.
Have you ever had a chance to enjoy @wwf's blog when he was active? His online book Graduating Life with Honours if i am remembering correctly there are great stories about the name in here. If not, i apologize! It's still a deeply informative and enjoyable read if you're interested in the topic. It was part of what drew me to Steemit! Unfortunately, he's fallen ill the past year and us not active anymore. I feel his message is deeply important and has so much value.
