Dating and Relationship Advice: Tip for Decision Making / Deal Breaker

Dating is a process. It takes a lot of time to really get to know someone to see if you're compatible for the long haul. You need to see the person in every light, when they are happy, tired, sad, angry, etc. During this time, you might come across traits you love, and traits you hate! So.... how do you best decide what is a deal breaker?

Stressing daily about whether the person you are dating is right or wrong for you and weighing their pros and cons every time you see them can really tire you out! This can lead to rash decisions that are not wise if you aren't 100% sure that you are ready to break up with someone, or to continue spending your time with them. Instead, follow these simple steps:

  1. Mark your calendar at a later date (1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month etc.), for whatever time frame gives you time to observe the person your dating.

  2. See how you feel on that given date on the issue(s) you are concerned about.

  3. Keep marking your calendar and checking in with yourself at that date until all issues are worked out, or until you are sure that something is a deal breaker for you.

This simple process allows for better decision making and no quick judgments based on your mood on just one given day.

Tip: When you do make a decision to continue or not continue with someone, be okay with it. So make a choice that feels right to you, in your gut, and don't stress. And if you still can't make a choice and be okay with it, follow the 3 steps again above until you are sure.
