Dogs. So many dogs.

in #dogs5 years ago

As we all know, because I keep bringing it up, we recently adopted a Boston Terrier from the local shelter. In the meantime, a cousin of mine, did the same out where she is living (Texas...I will likely never meet her dog, but through the miracle of facebook, I will get to see pictures.)
A co-worker (who also just lost her dog, to cancer) is picking up her new puppy in a couple weeks.
Another co-worker (who just put their chocolate lab down, also due to cancer) is picking up their new lab puppy tomorrow!

And my sister (also just lost her dog...the one she and her hubby took in when our dad passed away in 2012) just got a new puppy this past weekend.

So many puppies!!

Yesterday I got to visit Smokey, the little guy my sister adopted.

He's super chill, but not actually very little...

The mother was a Dachshund/Rat Terrier...the father...?...Corgi??

As a new mom myself, I didn't stay as long as I usually do when visiting the sisters.
I decided a couple days ago to start working on getting Orbit comfortable being alone without being in his crate. So I blocked off the rooms he'd be allowed in while we're gone and let him do his thing.
And like with any other toddler, though technically he's in his adolescent stage of development, when I heard total silence, I peeked around the corner...

He did pretty well, just exploring and trying to figure out what to do. I had, of course, tidied up and tucked away all the stuff he tends to come running out of the room with: gloves, hats, shoes.

Then he settled in and fell asleep and my heart melted as he slept through dinner (which I gave him when he woke up when Hubs came home).

Class #2 is this Saturday and I hope he is even better than last week. We took him to the vet to get his nails (:daggers) trimmed today and we had to take him outside twice because he was barking and causing such a ruckus! We never had to deal with the social situations with Moxie. She was always quiet and had very good manners.

But what fun would it be to have two perfect dogs in a row?

Habe you thought about socialising him with other dogs? My besteht friend has a dog with similar temperament like yours. She went to a 'toddlers group' with it right after she got the dog. There was no exercises, it was just people and their puppies meeting outside in the green where the dogs had time to ply with another. She found that through a note at the Vet's info board.

Do you know the tag 'dogsofsteemit'? A lot of photoshonly posts but some interesting reads and the best post get showcased.

no i wasn't aware of that tag but will check it out.
We will be socializing him more now that we've seen him with other dogs on leash. I have several 'dog friends' with pending play dates. Our last dog was a people's dog...this one just wants to play with everyone and everything! haha

Orbit is adorable! I also have a dog with a lot of energy and a big personality. It will get easier. 🙂

Thank you for that. I don't expect him to stay so energetic, but I am not used to this level of energy! haha Going from a little old senior dog couch potato to this is a shock to the system! ;)

He will get there, baby steps, or should I say 'puppy steps' can't wait to meet him and also sweet smoky, he looks so interesting, that colour!
