Curiosities of the corgi, the fashionable dog.
They have a very special temperament to be, as we say, so active, so they require a lot of patience and dedication but they are excellent companions of play and life.
The corgis are lovely pets for those who are looking for an active companion and guardian.
Do not let your small and funny size fool you, as it has a great personality: they are intelligent, shy, curious and adorable.
They are very suitable dogs for agility exercises or for dog competitions because they learn quickly (but they are very active, so focusing will cost them a bit) and are, likewise, an excellent company in a home that, for its genetic, will try to defend by all means.
In general, the care of this breed is the same as that of any other dog, that is, we speak of an adequate administration of nutritious food, clean water, exercise and, above all, a lot of love. But it is remarkable that due to its size, its long back and its medical history, the corgi has some more specific needs.
They are sociable dogs, but certainly with other dogs they are shy and suspicious at first. Do not worry, that does not mean it's not social, it's just that it's hard for you to let go.
If you want to fall in love a little more with this peculiar race that is conquering the networks of all the world and even the Queen of England, who has got up to eight copies at the same time as pets, from Muy Mascotas we bring you some curiosities that we are Insurance that you did not know and they will surprise you.
What's the meaning of your name?
Literally, in Welsh, "cor-gi" means dwarf dog. It's a name that fits perfectly.
Ancestors
The ancestors of the corgi are found in the guard dogs, shepherds and cowherds of south Wales, hence their guardian roots and their eagerness to defend and protect.
Very old race
The first writings about this breed of dogs are ancient, collected from books of Celtic culture and folklore.
Huge presence in the Celtic culture
Did you know that the corgi is known as the dog of the fairies? It is considered that way because, according to the Welsh mythological culture, the fairies left these dogs in the forest to help the shepherds in their labors.
Two races
There are two races that until the twentieth century were considered the same: Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh. They have a series of physical differences as one is somewhat larger than the other and the coat is longer in the second case (in addition the Pembroke are usually brown or white and in the second case there is more variety of fur). It is also said that the Pembroke are more sociable than their cousins but, like everything else, it depends on the personality of the dog and that is not linked to any race.
Facial curiosity
In case you had not noticed, in addition to its striking ears, the corgi has the facial and cranial shape similar to that of a fox.
Guardian instinct
By their guardian and sheep ancestors they are perfect caretakers who will always be alert and willing to help.
Accustomed to rubbing shoulders with royalty
If for some reason these dogs have made a name for themselves, it is, above all, because the English royal family, especially the queen, is a great fan of this dog, even having eight corgis at the same time as pets. Your canine majesties!
Double layer of hair
Their hair is of medium length and smooth but they have a sublayer underneath this one of dense and tight hair. Therefore, it is important to brush at least twice a week, to avoid knots impossible to unravel.
Longevity
The corgi is considered one of the longest races. If the animal is in good condition, it can live even 15 or 16 years easily.
Mental stimulation
It's very important! Being active dogs and possess a great intelligence, they need a great mental stimulation to avoid boredom, so it is positive to help them train and take long walks with them so that they can explore and discover the world.
Sociable?
You have to understand that this depends a bit on the personality of the dog but, in general, the corgi are sociable to a point, that is, they are quite independent dogs, very sociable with humans but a little shy and suspicious with other dogs. Therefore, it is important that we accustom them to certain animal contact from puppies.
Extremely skilled
They are dogs that, despite their small size and short legs, have incredible agility and coordination. It is therefore common to see them in competitions of all kinds and showing that that they are "dwarf dogs" is not an impediment to anything.
Recommended for children
They are very active and protective dogs in addition to being quite strong regarding its size, making it one of the ideal breeds for children.
You should know…
All corgi suffer from dwarfism, so they have that physical aspect and therefore can develop problems or pathologies related to this condition.
Chattering dogs
They are enormously charlatans! In such a way that they bark all the time and they do not stop making sounds continuously. Be patient!
