I think supposing that we are alone were the same error that they made in the middle ages:
"The Eart is flat like a plate and is the center of the universe..."

For sure they exist, but not sure if they have contacted us already. They might have a "stay away" policy established, like we with that tribe near India, at Andaman Islands.
