How will the EIP affect "top authors"?
How will the EIP affect "top authors"?
You may have heard of the EIP (Economic Improvement Proposal) lately. If not, here is an easier-to-read version:
Bear in mind that some of the key features are:
- 50/50 curation split
- Subsidized downvote pool
Some people fear that it will hurt the authors, especially those that use dapps. Many dapps now take beneficiary rewards. Of course, not all dapps focus on actual content creation. That does not prevent many to consider themselves "authors".
Here is an interesting take on the situation. Below, you will find a list of top 20 authors using stats extracted from UseSteem.
Do you see familiar names? Some of those are there by the virtue of their stake (aka self-voting). Some of those accounts belong to a single entity. Many involve the heavy use of bid bots. Do people actually like their content, or are they there for upvotes and curation rewards?
All monetary values displayed are gross revenue. Cost of promotional services not included in the calculation.
Here is the question:
How do you think the HF21 changes will affect these "top authors".
Poll will be open for 30 days. Expect changes in Q3.
PS - I decided to spend an extra minute on formating so I can have paragraphs. It will look ugly on dPoll, but not too bad on Steem Peak. You are welcome.
- Nothing
- Rewards will increase
- Rewards will decrease
- Downvotes be coming

I believe initially there would be a lot of downvotes but after a few weeks or months we would reach an equilibrium.
We will never stop the downvotes.

The downvote pool is a good idea to an extent. I think it will definitely add more to the curation aspect of steem, but the fact that people spam downvoting/retaliation voting will have just that bit more VP is a bit scary :(
The risk is definitely there. So, brace for impact.

Many will come up with ways to counter the changes with HF21. So, I think things will remain the same.
That is also a likely scenario.
