RE: Buddy Up. Word of the week. Identity.

easy!
Smart Bob. Tall Bob. Hairy Bob. LOLOLOL i can go on forever! ;)

its funny that you were talking about names. I think names are so powerful. They are probably powerful because we identify something in that sound and associate it with a part of us.

I have two names. One legal - that no one calls me. Not even my parents. Occassionally my husband will use it - but it's like he's talking about another person. I literally feel NOTHING when someone says that name except perhaps a government tag on me. LOL

but my nickname -which is not on any legal documentation ANYWWHERE - and is really not even a derivative of my legal name ... is me. As a matter of fact when I hear anyone else with my name - I get fiercely protective of it. hahahahaha

names.... funny things!

part of our identity IS in them. which gives them power. you know - even "dreemsteem" has become a significant part of me.

@monchhichi23 started calling me "Dreemie" a long time ago - and even that has stuck and become a part of me. so much so.... that now LOTS of people call me that - and I even identify myself using that nickname!

i also think its interesting that power is given to names in stories... knowing the name of characters can give you power over them. I just thought of the well-known character Rumplestiltskin - but that's actually a common theme... the power of a name.

hmmmm this could be a post! someone should write it!

I nominate @youhavewings or @juliamulcahy! hehehehe they will take us on a whirlwind journey of names!!! :)

Sort:

I think too many place who they are with their identity.
Although your name here is Dreemsteem that is how you know we are talking to you and not Joe. Cause Joe's name is not Dreemsteem. So when we say Dreemsteem you know we are talking to you and not to Joe.

An identity can become recognized and associated with a person. But what people think of the person associated with the identity, is not the identity. People will have all sorts of opinions about Dreemsteem. Granted the majority are positive, but there s going to be that asshole somewhere down the line. (When they come, Just ignore them)

There are two ways of asking about someone, When we say Who is. If we are in a crowded room we are probably asking which person, point them out to me. If asking, who is Dreemsteem? to learn more about you, then the answer is different and we learn something about you. Who is, can be asked in two different ways one is asking to identify. the other is to learn about the person behind the identity.

No matter how I think about it I keep coming back to the Identity is just the title or name given. What is behind the name is who we are.

Just take something like marriage, though not as much as before. People take their second name to that of their spouse. This changes the persons Identity, they are know known by an alternative identity. They may change in their personality of this too. But that change is not because the identity changed, Changes happen because of other things in life. You are still in all essence the same person you were before you married just the title changed.

I do not think the title matters. Or maybe it does and I should invent one for me and make me look more powerful. A different name to the one you use elsewhere on other platforms in different circles of life. Like with Monchhichi and she calls you Dreemie. An alternative title does not change you or another perception of that title does not change you. (though interacting with muppets might just change your mood. Just imagine yourself puling your hand out of their ass so they can't talk any more. Tat will make you laugh and you can get on with ignoring them.)
