Running On STEEM Episode#41 - Do the Number of Followers on STEEMIT Matter?

in #dsound6 years ago (edited)

It's a very exciting time when one discovers steemit and starts blogging and creating content while earning STEEM. And as if all that wasn't enough, you also start to amass a following. People who are interested in what you have to say!

Or are they?

In this episode, I share my thoughts on what it really means to have followers on steemit and if it's really something to celebrate.

Hope you enjoy this episode.

Thanks for listening!

Yes, this is true! When I get people following I'm always doubtful. But it's so natural to think that our following as our progress bar. Sometimes, when I see someone else's following, I get deceived and think "Waah, they must be popular!" I agree that the real progress is the each individual post's comment engagement :) Only that has any real meaning.

Since everyone gets bot followers, isn't this also a general good metric to follow. As usual, it should not be over-emphasized. Same goes for number of posts, comments. I am sure we have observed people with very few posts earn very high simply because their posts are very engaging.

Are there any sites that provide metrics on user names vs number of posts,... or similar? A sort of explorer of various metrics on Steem.

Well that's all true to a certain extent. Even a post with many comments could just be because they're trying to suck up to a whale and are fishing for upvotes. I just personally find using followers as a metric for success on steemit to be highly misguided. At least comments can be categorized as good or bad and the good ones carry that human element to it :)
