"El Diablo Suelto-El Alacrán”: venezuelan music for the world

in #dsound6 years ago (edited)

It is a pleasure for me to present in this interesting musical field this duo formed by two Venezuelan waltzes: “El Diablo Suelto” y “El Alacrán” ("The loose devil" and "The scorpion"). In this opportunity, both are interpreted in a single musical block by the Venezuelan Instrumental Group "El Cuarteto".

The first, "El Diablo Suelto" is a musical composition by the Venezuelan author Heraclio Fernández (1851-1886) and was written, initially, in 1878 as an instrumental waltz for Piano in a fairly moderate tempo, that is, a prudent and restrained one danceable speed. In the 70s of the last century the composer Enrique Hidalgo, also Venezuelan, wrote and adapted to this waltz, a letter to be performed by the Venezuelan singer of traditional popular music Gualberto Ibarreto, thus achieving considerable popularity due to the literary content that addressed the theme (legend-myth-fable-belief), the much faster tempo and the extraordinary interpretation that this singer made. Over the years, "El Diablo Suelto" has become one of the waltz most requested by the Venezuelan public to instrumental music groups traditional-popular music.

Like "El Diablo Suelto”, "El Alacrán" is also another instrumental waltz whose interpretative nature gives us the impression of listening to a Joropo. The author of this waltz is the Venezuelan Ulises Acosta Romero (1912-1986). This waltz was originally written for Clarinet and today is part of the repertoire of the different Venezuelan instrumental groups, especially those that have as solo instruments the violin, the mandolin and the flute.

These two Venezuelan waltzes represent a challenge for any performer because they contain a high technical difficulty instrumental that requires the soloist to possess certain skills and interpretative skills that are only achieved through constant preparation as a musician, through the daily study of the instrument.

In this opportunity, these two waltzes are interpreted, in a masterly manner, by the Venezuelan Instrumental Group “El Cuarteto” (The Quartet). At all times the Flute assumes the main role of soloist delegating in some passages that responsibility in the Guitar and with rare exceptions in the Cuatro. In this audition you will appreciate the interpretative quality of this Quartet composed of two pairs of brothers.
