Knowing Venezuelan traditional-popular music. Today's song: "Fulía a la Cruz" (Fulía to the Cross)

in #dsound6 years ago

It is a pleasure for me to refer to today's song in this musical field; "Fulía a la Cruz" (Fulía to the Cross) whose lyrics are by Rafael Salazar and the music of oriental folklore of Venezuela. It is an Arab-Andalusian musical form that with the passage of time lost its dance position and became a devotional song of the Venezuelan East in homage to the May Cross.

This fulía of today is interpreted by María Rodríguez (1924 - 2014), La Voz de Cumaná or La Sirena de Cumaná, as others also know her. This song was recorded in the city of Caracas in 1994 and is part of the Album MARY FOR EVER. The musical production was made by Rafael Salazar himself and the execution of the Mandolin, the Arrangements and the Musical Direction were in charge of who writes these lines.

This "Fulía a la Cruz" retains the Hispanic air in its melodic discourse, and is accompanied, in this case, by the Mandolin, the Cuatro and the Guitar and belongs to the singing line of the Wakes of Cruz de Mayo. It should be noted that this type of fulía, of little use, is not based on the Tenth and still retains its hispanic melodic air and its use of religious character. In this song we can appreciate the powerful contralto voice that this popular Venezuelan singer had, whose artistic legacy represents an icon of the identity of the Sucrense cultural being.

Fulía a la Cruz

I sing to the Cruz de Mayo
Of rogative and passion
Of rogative and passion
The salve and the galerón

The salve and the galerón
The point and the voice of the rooster
The point and voice of the rooster
And in the light of the stage

And in the light of the stage
The promising singing
The promising singing
Seven steps down

Seven steps down
By Christ Jesus blessed
By Christ Jesus blessed
So that the beautiful sky

So that the beautiful sky
View the fields irrigating

Chorus

So that the beautiful sky
View the fields irrigating
View the fields irrigating
