Juan Sebastián Bach: "Presto" of the Sonata I for Solo Violin
It is an immense pleasure for me, to present myself before you, once again in this field Dsound. In this opportunity I will perform in the Mandolin the Presto de la Sonata I (BWV 1001) for Solo Violin by Juan Sebastián Bach (1645 - 1695). In general, the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin are part of a set of 6 Works written by this German composer containing three Sonatas and Three Partitas. Each of the Sonatas consists of four movements and the Partitas of a variable number of dance movements. Speaking in strictly musical terms, the Sonatas have a classical structure in the style of the Sonata da Chiesa, that is, Church Sonata of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with slow-fast-slow-fast tempos and a Fuga for the second movement. The first movement is slow (Adagio, Grave, Adagio) followed by a Fuga in the second movement where the possible polyphonic effects are perceived and where the limits of the Violin are explored (Instrument for which the Sonatas and Partitas were written). Then it passes to the counterpoint - lyrical meditation (Sicilian, Andante, Largo) and ends with a rapid movement (Presto) which is the movement that you will be able to appreciate in this opportunity. This last movement suggests a fast game and contrary to this, if Presto indicates, today, a tempo faster than the Allegro, in Bach's time it indicated a moderately fast tempo. This only refers to the expressiveness of the music that was played at that time and, although it is true that this movement lends itself to expressing itself in a virtuous manner in terms of execution, it is delineated by vigorous changes of harmonies that stand out in a perfect combination for the end of this Sonata.
