I introduced Dicks back in Ep4 and described STD this way:
One night, during a particularly boozy rehearsal, a vividly pornographic song emerged from a jam, fully formed. I was recording. We never re-recorded the song or overdubbed any parts. In fact, we never played the song again. STD is the result of a rare, musical moment where a group of guys fell into sync and spontaneously created something new and complete. Amazing.
We had all been in it together, but the singer deserves the most credit for improvising what is essentially a short play in which he inhabited two characters. It's a hilarious performance...that he doesn't even remember. Afterwards he fell out of a chair, spilling a drink on my computer keyboard and I banned him from the studio. . .Until, many years later, the same group of guys was reunited in a band called Stray Natives.
The Strays were more of a hard rock band than Dicks and I have a lot to share from them. In the meantime, enjoy STD, the miracle song!
