Ethereum ist eine dezentrale open-source Software und läuft auf ihrer eigenen Blockchain. Das Netzwerk bildet mittlerweile die zweitgrößte Kryptowährung und wurde von Vitalik Buterin, einem der führenden Blockchainentwickler, 2015 ins Leben gerufen.
Während der Bitcoin ein Zahlungsmittel, sowie ein Anlageobjekt darstellt, ging Ethereum einen Schritt weiter und implementierte sogenannte „Smart-contracts“
Die gängigsten Geschäftsverträge bedienen sich eines Mittelsmann, um Vertrauen und Sicherheit zwischen den Vertragsparteien zu gewährleisten. Dieser jedoch kann oft einen Angriffspunkt für Betrugsfälle, Verzögerungen und Irrtümer darstellen.
