It is being said that Steemit moved their stakes to Bittrex due to a concern of a potential hard fork to remove their stake from the blockchain. However, I would not be surprised if Ned did leave already and leadership their is without a true plan at this point.

To remove they stake by a hard fork it not going to happen and witnesses will not allow this move. I believe Ned will close his shop and move out, this is what I see from his actions!
Steemit is not moving us forward. Hopefully some others will step forward.
I believe so because this blockchain has already the foundation in place!
This big cashing outs is not giving the system here a confidence, it's great to see your crypto kid in the mix of all that is happening here ☺
