Bangkok Floating Market Expensive and Not Worth It!
When they tell you the Floating Market near Bangkok Thailand is not worth the trip they are right!
- It takes and hour and a half to get there.
- The taxi to get there and back is 1000 THB ($30 USD)
- The admission price is 2000 THB ($60 USD)
- The ONLY things to do there while trapped on the tiny boat is to try to stay upright and shop.
- People float by to sell you food and drinks at 5X the highest price in Bangkok
- You float by various windows and the boat stops 100 times so people can try to hand you things to buy such as wallets.
- The boat has seats 5 inches from the floor. Very difficult to sit in and get out of.
- The "docks" are not OSHA approved. Do not fall in to the filthy water.
- You have to get in and out of the boat several times and go to markets on land that have themes and are very expensive. The boat disappears so you are stuck in this island market for 20-30 minutes in case you want to buy a 3 foot tall elephant for your foyer.
- The bathrooms at the "bathroom break" stop are among the worst I have ever seen in SE Asia.
- After you finally get out of the boat for good, the taxi driver takes you to a place for lunch where the prices are high and the portions are tiny.
- Then he stops at a wax museum he wants you to go in for another 1000 THB. (No.)
- Then he tries to get you to go see some chained up elephants. (No.)
- When you are finally back to the hotel in Bangkok, the taxi driver wants a tip.
Highly not recommended.
I would never have done this, but a single lady came to the hotel where I was and wanted to go. She and the hotel staff thought the whole trip was 1000 THB. I did not even want to spend that, but I did it to be nice. The 2000 THB I paid for admission was emergency cash I had at the time and the 200 THB ($6) for a plain fried rice dish was the money I was going to spend for three days of food in Bangkok.
The next day my Rheumatoid Arthritis was a bit kicked up.

No, I can't - I live here on a very tight budget. The exact same stuff was outside the door of my hotel for 20% of the price and I did not need any of it anyway.

It is quite touristic, but I still take friends who visit Thailand there and maybe since I do speak Thai, I can get a bargain for both the boat trip and the stuff they are selling. However, as a tourist, you are paying 3 or 4 times the amount.

I was just in awe of the set up. They have you for sure. But I had no money anyway since they took it for admission!
