Some of the best players of the world are currently wandering on the courts of Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for the US Open this week but the men's draw have witnessed big players like Novak Djokovic, Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray and defending champion Stan Wawrinka pulling out of the event citing injuries. Absence of elite players in a tournament like US Open surely hurts the essence of the sport. In the event of top players pulling out of the US Open, let us take a look at some of the all-time worst tennis injuries endured by the players.

"Who knows what would have happened if he was free from injuries" - the thought that has crossed the minds of many as Nadal undoubtedly stands to be the player who has suffered from an injury almost every year for the last 15 years. The Spaniard suffered a rare injury that could have ended his career in 2005 itself and is probably the only player who had to withdraw from Majors citing injury even before his Grand Slam debut.

His first major injury came in 2003 when he suffered from an elbow injury during a practice match in Manacor which forced him to retire from Roland Garros 2003, which could have been his first career Grand Slam appearance. Ever since, he has suffered from various injuries which includes left foot injury, knee injury, left arm injury in addition to his issues with back problems and wrist. In spite of all the injuries, Rafa Nadal did not just survive but he thrived as he is the player who missed 7 months due to injury but still came back to win two Majors in a year and become No 1 again.
