I know lots of people from the west complain about this, but the security you can get from this is freedom - freedom to walk on the streets late at night, worries free about being mugged anywhere. This is like after you binge eating/drinking, your body gets sick. You can't complain to your body accusing it of depriving your right to freedom of enjoying foods in life. When you pay some and gain a lot in return, this formula works quite well.
