The Royal North Shore hospital did a meta analysis of the outcomes of patients receiving cytoxic chemotherapy treatments for a broad spectrum of cancer morphological types and they found the treatment had a success rate of 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the U.S., so traditional treatments are generally no more effective than placebo with the added benefit of making the patient sick/miserable and in need of a range of other medications to suppress the side effects of the chemo.

There are some cancers that respond well to chemo but in general it's almost useless.
